Well, I've got it working. I removed the cards, removed all RME drivers with 'Programs and features', reinstalled the 4.30 driver, Reinstalled the cards, and voila, everything works as it did before, but with the new driver. Thanks for your help, you triggered some ideas for me to try. I know these cards are old, but I really love them. RME audio interfaces on Windows have always enabled ASIO access in their drivers. If you open any DAW, you should be able to select respective device and immediately access all I/Os from there. However WDM access for generic apps is possible to control and even completely disable.
